APIHM OVERVIEW

The Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APIHM) is a month long event with workshops, speakers and performances where we as APSA along side with our constituents shed light on the Asian American experience. This year we will have such programs including the search for the Top 30 Most Influential Asian American Students at UCI in reference to AngryAsianMan, APSA’s annual talent show APSA JAM, Mayor Sukhee Kang as well as many others.

Finally, a day in the sun where the APSA constituents all come together and battle it out for the title of the first ever APSA Olympics. The OCA’s 2010 Census Team will also be joining us!


APSA FESTIVAL
WEEK 2 / WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7 / 11AM – 3PM
RING ROAD INFRONT OF THE CROSS-CULTURAL CENTER
There will be cultural foods and lots of it! Join us and our constituents for some deliciousness on Ring Road.

Hear from a panel of UCI alums talk about the movement back when they were students. Each will speak about what they were fighting for, what they were able to accomplish with their initiatives, how their movements compare with today’s activism, and what they may have learned in retrospect.

We’re kicking off 2010’s month of May with our keynote speaker, Asian American Studies Department Chair, Linda Vo! The purpose of APSA Jam is to bring UCI students with different talents together and put on a production that will bring both cultural and self-awareness to the UCI community. With recent racial events that have been happening on our campus as well as other campuses, APSA saw a need to portray a form of solidarity amongst all the communities present on the UCI campus. Therefore, presenting a space for both non-Asian students and Asian/Asian-American students to perform together. There will also be artwork exhibited by talented young UCI artists.

We’ve been in search for influential Asian Americans that impact our community and through the process of students nominating students, here they are. Inspired by angryasianman’s Top 30, we will reveal one amazing person a day starting in the month of May here on the APIHM blog.

Entertaining and heart touching, hereandnow Theater Company has performed at dozens colleges across the US and now returns to UCI to present a collection of vignettes about the experiences of being a young Asian American.

A free leadership conference that will provide unique training that focuses on development of leadership and organizational skills that are relevant to APIA campuses and communities.
