Twitter Zotcalvin/UC_CSF Calvin Sung is basically our behind the scenes man that handles monetary allocations for our student fees. On our campus he is currently the Chair of the Council on Student Fees (CSF) as well as the Chief of Staff for the Associated Students, VP of Administrative Affairs Office. He’s quite experienced considering in the past couple of years he’s been working with how our student dollars gets utilized in such cases as the Student Programming Funding Board through assisting student organizations on campus understand the process of funding. Representing Irvine, he takes charge of the Student Fee Advisory Committee for the University of California Student Association (UCSA) which also consists of the Chairs of all the UC campuses. “CSF serves as the student advisory board on systemwide matters regarding the use of Registration Fees and the provision of student services to UCSA and the council of Vice Chancellors.” (UCSA Site) ACCOMPLISHMENTS Through taking on all of these responsibilities he has helped accomplish the stopping of the 30 dollar fee increase for fall 2010, assisted in finding cheaper venues on campus for organizations that have culture nights and built the Student Programming Funding Board to be a strong functioning operation. Whenever he gets the chance he also tries to keep the students informed on what’s going on in our nation, our state and our University. IN THE NEAR FUTURE he plans to get the Bren Events Center to stop charging students for a rental fee to use the space, to have the Registration Fee (part of the 900 dollars of your tuition) be changed to the Student Services Fee and to bring full transparency to that fee. HE’S MOTIVATED Though the goal to achieve “Self-actualization (the motive to realize all of one’s potential) through curiosity, knowledge, individualism and idealism.” HIS PASSIONS Calvin is also quite passionate about music especially improvisational Jazz. Here’s an interesting tidbit of information that during UCSA Congress, which was first time I met Calvin, he actually brought his trumpet and played it during our free time. He also knows how to play the french horn and finally his favorite musician is Miles Davis, especially considering he plays the trumpet as well. INTERESTING FACTS include that he is a lefty, he likes broccoli and he loves to drive because it keeps his mind at peace and lets him ponder.
